One week in April 2008, members of Wonderland with friends and family walked the West Highland Way in Scotland – 96 miles from Mingavie (Glasgow) to Fort William along one of the most spectacular routes in the world. This expedition was inspred by a close friend of bandleader Steve’s – Nick Crockatt, whose daughter, Sofia, had contracted meningitis in February 2007. Thankfully, after several months in hospital, she managed to pull through. However, her recovery came at a huge cost. Tragically she had to have her left leg amputated below the knee and her right leg was also severly damaged. Sofia has come a long long way since then – she is now taking part in runs and marathons with her Dad and we all plan to do the walk again in 2018 – alongwith Sofia for parts of the route. Our chosen charity was Meningitis Research Foundation as they not only put money towards research but their mission is also to raise awareness of the symptoms of both meningitis and septicaemia. The CD Wonderland and Friends “Songs For Sofia” was released at the same time and copies are still available for a minimum donation of £8 which includes UK postage.Every penny, after postage and Paypal charges, will go to the charity. We’ve raised over £11,000 so far and you can see our original page here https://www.justgiving.com/sofiacrockatt/ and keep up with Sofia and her Dad here https://www.justgiving.com/nick-crockatt.
